    The worst jobs.
    The parents have found a Christmas version of Tony Robinson's Worst Jobs in History, which is one of my favourite popular history series type things, largely on the grounds that it isn't about kings (I wonder if that's why I find very few Shakespearean characters particularly sympathetic - Edmund, Malvolio and Cinna the poet are the only ones that leap to mind - 'cause they're so predominately royal). I also like the extent to which Tony Robinson gets stuck into the tasks, but it's vastly refreshing to view history from the POV of the millions who did stuff other than wearing sumptuous robes and eating sparrows. Or whatever it was they did.

    I don't actually want to know what the puke collector does.

    I agree with this thing that David Mitchell says about bottled water:

    'It's idiotic that any resources are expended bottling water and then shipping it around the world to supermarkets where it can be lugged into petrol-guzzling cars to be driven back to houses full of taps.'

    This reminds me of a friend of mine who used to drive two miles to a gym, run four miles on a treadmill and then drive two miles home again. Also water costs tuppence out of the tap and I wonder if bottled water companies in countries with drinkable tap water can get any work done for laughing. Probably curtailing air traffic and heavy industry would have slightly more impact than banning bottled water. But still.

    He says something later on in the article about scrapping formula one, which I agree with from every conceivable ecological and financial standpoint but that otherwise makes me cry, except it doesn't really since Michael Schumacher quit. I hope snooker is fairly ecologically sound. Probably moreso since they banned smoking in the arenas.

    Oh by gee by gosh by gum by jove.
    I'm watching the first episode of Jeeves and Wooster that I ever saw. It's the one where everyone sings at the end, including Jeeves. It's vaguely frightening. Jeeves speaks rather than singing, but still. It's because of this episode that I shouted 'Buffy Toto!' in the middle of a crowded cinema during The Dark Knight, 'cause Colin McFarlane came on screen. It was the only bit of The Dark Knight that interested me in the slightest, but I did have to sink momentarily into my seat.

    I have no Christmassy icon this year. I do on IJ - Jeeves and Wooster in Santa hats - but not on LJ, because if I want to get it back I have to randomly delete others until pot luck kicks in and I'd rather not 'cause it's only any use in December. It'd be better if I were allowed to swap icons in and out without losing my various inert ones altogether. But I can't. That's the way of things.

    I have eaten most of the evil tempting food in the house, but some gingerbread appeared yesterday. What if I don't want to test my willpower?

    Yesterday's snooker.
    Did you see that bit in yesterday's snooker where Steve Davis said something to Stephen Hendry that jollied him out of his snooker-losing pit of misery, and the commentators spent ages speculating about whether or not that was a sensible thing to have done in the circumstances and maybe he should've left him to wallow prettily and not cheer him into playing better snooker? That was my favourite snooker thing that happened in ages. And it turned out they were just goading one another, meanly, about who was and wasn't a long-shot-avoiding coward. Or something. He didn't sing 'Baby you're the best' to him after all. Good old snooker. Yesterday was like the nineties. When Steve Davis was the enemy.

    And today I cured nausea with a cheese and onion pasty. I did ask my body to think twice about it ... to consider waiting till we got home and having some peppermint tea instead ... but it just said 'No, it's right, is this'. And it wasn't wrong. Clever old body.
